Every report comes from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center severe weather database — the same log insurers and adjusters work from. We never invent a storm.
Granules in the downspout is the first thing to look for.
What the stone size means
One inch is the line
Asphalt shingles start bruising at about an inch. Bruising is a soft spot in the mat you cannot see from the driveway, and it is what an adjuster looks for.
Damage does not look like damage
A hail-damaged roof usually looks fine from the ground. What shows first is dented gutters, dented soft metal, and granules in the downspout.
Claims have deadlines
Most Missouri and Kansas policies expect a claim within a year of the storm date, some sooner. The date in your report is the date that clock started.
You do not have to file
An inspection is not a claim. Knowing the stone size and the date first is how you decide whether filing is worth your deductible at all.
